I Dared To call Him Father
This is the story of Bilquis Sheikh, a Pakistani Muslim who converted to Christianity during the 1960's. It is an amazing story of Faith and Courage, the impact of which has stayed with me even several months after I have read it. The honesty of the book is how Bilquis relied on her faith and sought to find God in all situations that make it relevant and an inspiration to Christians living in the UK today. Available here. Also available in local Christian Bookshops.

But Don't All Religions Lead To God? by Michael Green
A short, punchy book that clearly sets out the case for why Christianity is unique in our multi faith and politically correct society; providing answers to commonly posed questions including "Aren't all religions much the same?" and "What makes Jesus so special". A wonderful reminder to those of us who already know Christ that Jesus brings God to us today, deals with human sin and lives within his followers.

I Francis by Carlo Corretto
Appointment in Jerusalem by Lydia & Derek Prince
This is a great little read for anyone who has struugled with a sense of vocation. Lydia Prince wrestles with God over a call to Jerusalem and away from her life as a teacher. In this gripping read she honestly expresses her fears and frustrations, temptations and tears before eventually making her divine appointment with the poorest children in Jerusalem.

Touching Heaven by John Oliver
This book I came across whilst on retreat and I just couldn't put it down. It is the personal testimony of John Olivers journey from American Evangelicalism to Russian Orthodoxy. The book is full of spiritual gems to nourish the weary soul.

Soul Survivor by Philip Yancy
If you like biographies then this personal investigation into the lives of thirteen people who influence Philip Yancy and helped restore his faith is an inspiring read. People such as Martin Luther King Jnr, G.K.Chesterton, Leo Tolstoy, Feodor Dostoevsky Mahatma Gandhi, John Donne and Henri Nouwen to name but a few.

Prayer by Philip Yancy
Philip Yancey asks the question that we all have. In this book he explores who prays how and what for and looks at why some prayers seem to work and others don't. He recounts stories from people who have had prayers answered to those who haven't..... yet. He never lectures but takes us with him on his own voyage to get closer to God through the only means we have. Along the way we discover some real treasure.

With Jesus in the Upper Room by David Winter
This book invites us to spend forty days reflecting on five key chapters of John's Gospel, the so called 'Upper Room Discourses' which record the conversation between Jesus and his disciples the night before he died. The book opens our imagination to what that night might have been like and leads us to explore what it was like to be a disciple of Christ at the Last Supper.
